DIY Project- Patio Table Remodel

Two weeks ago, Jim's boss gave him an old patio table that he didn't want anymore. Of course Jim knows my love for old things and how much I like to try and make something old new again. This past Sunday was really the only time we had a chance to work on it, so we got busy!

This thing was in BAD SHAPE! The legs were Rusty, the wood was in horrible condition but, we had a vision.. and we set out to make it so!

Check out how terrible that wood looks.. I was skeptical that no amount of sanding and refinishing was going to bring it back!

The First Step was to get all of the boards off the table and unscrew the legs from themselves so we could get a good look at what we were up against.

The Boards were worse then we thought, they had alot of mildew on them. We had to wear masks to sand them down and then I cleaned them with a Bleach solution in hopes of killing anything Nastyness that was in the wood itself!

We were finally able to get them in decent condition and I set to work staining them and putting on 4 coats of polyurethane! This table is going to be outside for the majority of the year so I wanted to make sure it was protected!

The wood really came out quite well considering how it started off.. I am pleased with it. You can still tell how dry it is, and weather damaged but I think it looks pretty good!

Jim then set to work grinding off of the rusty spots on the legs and the support bars for the table portion.
Once that was finished, we primed the legs with Kilz Spray Paint in White, and then we sprayed them bright gloss white with Rustoleum brand paint that we bought last year at K-mart for 10 CENTS a CAN!

Here is the Finished Product! And I really like how it looks on our deck! I will have to take some pictures when it is full sun, we didn't finish until about 7pm tonight and I had to run to town to get a few things for dinner so I wasn't able to take pictures until around 7:45.

This is really the first project that we have worked on where I have taken pictures of the entire process and I am really glad I did.. It makes looking back at all the hard work alot more enjoyable when you can see the outcome and the process it took to get there!

A special DIY project coming SOON!

I am so excited! Tomorrow I am going to be posting some before and after pictures of a project my husband and I worked almost all day on today!  We have been DIY-er's for a few years now, but I have never really documented our progress at all. Well that all changed today, today with our new small project. I took several process pictures as well as a "BEFORE" picture! I always forget those!!

Here is a picture just to tease you :D

This is my husband... hard at work.. grinding some metal for our project :D

I love how this picture has a Retro Vibe to it! I am absolutely loving the PicPlz app for my Android phone! It resembles the I-Phones Instagram app. If you have an Android, I definitely can recommend the PicPlz app to you! It is fabulous!

If you are unsure as to which App you should download, here is a great little comparison of the two programs! Also, I don't think that Instagram is available yet for the Android phones.

Can't wait to show you the rest of the pictures tomorrow and reveal our little project!!!

How many Vintage Buttons is too Many Vintage Buttons?

I think I have a problem! I might need counseling or maybe even rehab!

Yes, Rehab.. that's what I need!

Button Rehab!

A trip to my local thrift shop today somehow enticed me to bring home another two bags of vintage buttons.

Seriously? .. Note to self, the 4 jars of vintage buttons you have should be plenty to craft with for many many years to come.

Ha! What does my Self know!?

It wasn't only buttons I found today, but I came across some really cute trim! I can't wait to spray these with my Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays.. ooh its going to be so pretty!!

Isn't it just delightful!! So softy and pretty waiting to become some vivacious color! I am partial to Pretty in Pink, Pink.

There was so much to choose from today and I can not tell a lie, I brought home almost everything I touched!  Buttons, lace, beads, trims, 2 of the cutest little pots I have ever seen!

I can't wait to start playing with all these goodies!!

So, if you guys are ever on the hunt for unique vintagy items, Seriously check out your Local Thrift Shop! I love Goodwill, but I tend to find the best vintage things at the small in town thrift shops! Give them a try!!

Matchbox fever?

This month a couple of my friends on youtube (Fran's YT =makeupaddict4eva and Stacie's YT= bitchycat1) and I are swapping altered matchboxes (the kitchen sized ones). They have been really fun to work with.. the perfect size I think!

When I went to start creating mine, I realized that I had forgotten to pick up the matchboxes at the store...No less then 5 times! I needed to get busy with them so I decided to make my own boxes! Check out the video I made detailing how to make these Here.

And, without further ado, here are the finished projects!

I really hope the gals like them :D

Summer Hiatus is OVA!

I am so excited to be back to blogging! I have taken the entire summer off... not really by choice, but by necessity!! I knew there were two things that I really wanted to accomplish over the summer.

1. Spend time with Jim and Haley ---even if it was just sitting in the sun at a softball game (which by the way happened the entire summer!)

and

2. Get to 1000 Subscribers on my YouTube!! ( Not technically happened yet but I am at 998!!

So... Everyone knows what is coming up as soon as that number turns to a bunch of zeros!! That's right another YouTube GIVEAWAY!! (more on that later!) SO very excited about this!!

Unfortunately I knew if I was going to continue making videos in the summer (which I did but not with great frequency) that I would have to let something else go.. that something else became my blog. But, I am glad to say that I now have a renewed vigor when it comes to blogging. And I am going to give it my all once again!

I will talk about things that make me smile! (Paper, Family, Fitness, DIY, Crafts) and maybe a few things along the way that frustrate me! (weight loss and fitness mostly)

I want to leave you with a few things I did over my summer vacation? Will you do the same?
