This thing was in BAD SHAPE! The legs were Rusty, the wood was in horrible condition but, we had a vision.. and we set out to make it so!
Check out how terrible that wood looks.. I was skeptical that no amount of sanding and refinishing was going to bring it back!
The First Step was to get all of the boards off the table and unscrew the legs from themselves so we could get a good look at what we were up against.
The Boards were worse then we thought, they had alot of mildew on them. We had to wear masks to sand them down and then I cleaned them with a Bleach solution in hopes of killing anything Nastyness that was in the wood itself!
We were finally able to get them in decent condition and I set to work staining them and putting on 4 coats of polyurethane! This table is going to be outside for the majority of the year so I wanted to make sure it was protected!
The wood really came out quite well considering how it started off.. I am pleased with it. You can still tell how dry it is, and weather damaged but I think it looks pretty good!
Jim then set to work grinding off of the rusty spots on the legs and the support bars for the table portion.
Once that was finished, we primed the legs with Kilz Spray Paint in White, and then we sprayed them bright gloss white with Rustoleum brand paint that we bought last year at K-mart for 10 CENTS a CAN!
Here is the Finished Product! And I really like how it looks on our deck! I will have to take some pictures when it is full sun, we didn't finish until about 7pm tonight and I had to run to town to get a few things for dinner so I wasn't able to take pictures until around 7:45.
This is really the first project that we have worked on where I have taken pictures of the entire process and I am really glad I did.. It makes looking back at all the hard work alot more enjoyable when you can see the outcome and the process it took to get there!
